This weeks book was so powerful that I almost kept it to myself. If you could see my personal copy, there is massive amounts of underlining and dog-earred pages.
Without further adieu, Trust Me I'm Lying-Ryan Holiday .
Ryan's treatise on media manipulation is 50% ingenious, 50% exploitive and 100% practical. Ryan did everything written in this book from creating hundreds of thousands of dollars of free advertising to getting from no-name blog posts into the New York Times & The Huffington Post.
Whether you're trying to market your first start up to get more media coverage or get more coverage for a business client, if you don't have Ryan's ideas in your toolkit you are screwing yourself (and not in the pleasurable way!).
Here's the one insight we're going to dive into deeply.
On page 93, Ryan talks about "Spelling it Out For Them."
This hit home because you can influence the media by simply doing the work for them. They are human beings just like anyone else and their vulnerability is "diligence."In the time-pressure of a deadline, if you write the PR article for in an "enticing" way the writer's won't be able to pass up on it.
Thus the tactical steps are to identify your local small town reporter (I did this via Instagram) write your own PR release, have a face-to-face meeting with them, and pass on the enticing PR release.
Overall this book is 5 stars!
P.S. Will keep you updated on how this book has worked for me.
